SUMMARY:ArtWork / The Young Academy in Search-Stadion
DESCRIPTION:ArtWork: Conversations about Care for Artists’ Careers\n\n\n\nIn the early stages of their trajectories\, young artists are confronted with different players from art education and the professional field that have an influence on their further development and the career path they will take. These gatekeepers can vary greatly per art discipline\, but they always play a major role in forming the artistic identity of the young artist on the one hand and a sustainable artistic career on the other. \n\n\n\nTherefore\, in the framework of the city festival for tradition and renewal\, Baroque Influencers\, the Young Academy (Jonge Academie) and the Antwerp Port House (Havenhuis) are organizing a series of debates that question the care for our new generations of artists. Together with gatekeepers from the arts sector\, art schools (from students to policy makers) and other stakeholders in Flanders\, these debates seek layered answers to the question of how aspiring artists develop into full-fledged sustainable players in the field. The goal of this project is to uncover not only the differences\, but more importantly the similarities between these players in order to come up with an overview of best practices that we can use to send young artists into the field. How can the different art fields reinforce each other? We particularly focus on the role of art schools in higher education: how do they deal with the growing market and how can the market treat the training programs respectfully? How do art schools in our country do care and aftercare for aspiring artists? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn three Wednesdays in October 2023\, we will bring together a group of the aforementioned gatekeepers from one cluster of arts disciplines and debate how all of these players impact the trajectory from art student to full-fledged artist. Every Wednesday afternoon we hold a live exhibition within which we meet and engage in this conversation. This encounter is documented through video recording and editing\, transcription\, audio clips\, photographic recordings and drawings. These remains testify to our live moments and are added to weekly. In this way\, the exhibition grows organically during the month of October. Although numerous art disciplines are recognized in Flanders and there are many overlaps\, for practical reasons we chose to divide the art field into three clusters: Mixed Media and Film; Performing Arts and Music; Visual Arts and Art in Public Space. Within each cluster we will work on the same questions\, so that at the end of the month we can foresee a final moment where we bring these different fields together to arrive at an overarching state of affairs. \n\n\n\n\n\nOn Wednesday afternoons\, we fill the installation ‘Zoekstadion’ (‘Searching Stadium’ ) with people who want to engage in a conversation about career starters in the specific artistic fields they work in\, as artists themselves or as facilitators. Visitors can sit down among the speakers and listen or participate. Or they can walk through the installation as they listen to the live discussions. Meanwhile\, filmmaker Ayham Qomoq will capture the discussions from various viewpoints within the installation\, a graphic designer will visualize the discussions through drawings on the walls of the installation\, a simultaneous translator program will transcribe the discussions on screen\, and each speaker will bring an object they deem relevant to the theme and which will be added to the installation\, and as such the installation will grow after each Wednesday. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtWork Events\n\n\n\nFriday 7 October 2023Internal opening reception  \n\n\n\nWednesday 11 October 2023 14:00 – 17:00Mixed Media & Film Host:  Christina Stuhlberger | Co-Host: Sander De RidderSpeakers: Eva Van Tongeren\, Vincent Stroep\, Pascal Vandelanoitte\, Ben de Raes\, Nikol Wellens\, among others. \n\n\n\nWednesday 18 October 2023: 14:00 – 17:00 (in collaboration with Articulate)Performing Arts (Spoken Word\, Drama\, Dance and Music)Host: Kevin Trappeniers en Annelies Van Assche  | Co-Host: Kurt Bertels en Zoë GyselinckSpeakers: Tuur Marinus\, Karen Joosten\, Mokhallad Rasem\, Nikol Wellens\, Amina Iddrisu\, among others. \n\n\n\nThursday 19 October 2023Internal JA-Day on location at the Antwerp Port House \n\n\n\nWednesday 25 October 2023 14:00 – 17:00 (in collaboration with Articulate)Visual Arts and Art in Public SpaceHost: Nicolas Baeyens + Lodewijk Heylen | Co-Host: Kevin TrappeniersSpeakers: Sergio Servellón\, Stella Lohaus\, Laurence Petrone\, Maarten Inghels\, Bart Vanderbiesen\, Vedran Kopljar\, Nikol Wellens\, among others. \n\n\n\nFriday 27 October 2023 15:00 – 18:00 Wrap-up SymposiumHosts: Nicolas + Annelies\, hosts of the Working GroupGuest speakers: to be confirmed. \n\n\n\nFollow Search-Stadion on Instagram or Facebook:@zoekstadion #zoekstadion \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPractical details\n\n\n\nArtWork runs from 6 to 31 October at Search-Stadion in the Port House in Antwerp. SUMMARY:Search-Stadion
DESCRIPTION:With its architecturally stunning design by Zaha Hadid\, the Antwerp Port House is part of the city trail of the festival Baroque Influencers. This iconic landmark symbolizes renewal. It is the ideal location for a project that focuses on contemporary art from Antwerp and connects with the other components of Baroque Influencers. \n\n\n\nThe artistic project at the Port House is curated by Sergio Servellón. It complements the starting points of the festival\, drawing the dialogue between tradition and innovation into the present. Through a mix of art\, events\, discussions\, theatre and lectures\, visitors are invited to actively participate in this dialogue. As with the seventeenth-century Sodality\, the focus at the Port House is on knowledge-sharing and collaboration. \n\n\n\n\n\nAntwerp Port House | Zaha Hadid Architects\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs the main sponsor of the festival\, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges wants to use this project to emphasize the importance of innovation in a period full of challenges and to connect with a broad and inclusive public\, in which young people will also be closely involved.

SUMMARY:Art society De Pelgrim
DESCRIPTION:After the baroque\, the avant-garde is undoubtedly the most fascinating artistic period we have known in our regions. A rather neglected aspect of the historical avant-garde is its religious dimension. \n\n\n\nFounded by writer Felix Timmermans\, architect Flor Van Reeth and writer Ernest Van der Hallen\, the art society De Pelgrim (The Pilgrim\, 1924–30) sought to combine modernity and faith. Well-known members of the society include Albert Servaes\, Huib Hoste\, Renaat Veremans\, Gerard Walschap\, René Demedts and Marnix Gijsen. The ‘spiritual leader’ of this society\, Leonce Reypens\, SJ \, was a co-founder of the Antwerp Ruusbroec Society. \n\n\n\nComparisons with the baroque were never far away in De Pelgrim. This exhibition rediscovers the (international) network of De Pelgrim and the religious community art of the interwar period. \n\n\n\nPartners\n\n\n\nWalden Art Stories en KMSKA

SUMMARY:Baroque Influencers. Jesuits\, Rubens and the art of persuasion
DESCRIPTION:Scroll down for an overview of all ticket prices. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA special exhibition at three historic locations forms the heart of the festival. It will allow you to experience the baroque in a surprising way.  \n\n\n\nTo win over their audience\, the Jesuits developed a unique visual culture that was influential as far away as China. The central exhibition shows how the leading figures of Antwerp in the long seventeenth century thought\, dreamed\, worked and prayed. \n\n\n\nOne such protagonist was Peter Paul Rubens. At the request of the Jesuits\, he created thirty-nine ceiling paintings in St Charles Borromeo Church. These were lost in the fire of 1718. During Baroque Influencers\, we will bring that lost art treasure back to life at The Snijders&Rockox House. We will do so by using more than forty domestic and foreign masterpieces by Peter Paul Rubens\, Jacob de Wit and Daniel Seghers. \n\n\n\nFurthermore\, the exhibition in St Charles Borromeo Church gathers devotional prints\, etchings and books from the collections of various heritage institutions\, including the Ruusbroec Society. In the Nottebohm Hall of the Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library\, you can admire a reconstruction of the rich interior of the Sodality and the baroque chapel it once was.  \n\n\n\nThe exhibition will be held in three locations: Museum Snijders&Rockoxhuis\, the galleries of St Charles Borromeo Church\, and the Nottebohm Hall of the Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library*. \n\n\n\n*The exhibition in the Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library will continue until the end of August .
